Hart Council restarts consultation as cabinet member condemns excess spending

Hart Cabinet Council has re-started the failed consultation on the Local Plan, details can be found here.  In a master stroke of organisation, the link to the detailed consultation page does not seem to work at the time of writing. We will digest the materials and then post again with our views on how Hart residents should respond to it.

Hart Council Cabinet Member Resigns from Fleet Town Council

In other news and without a hint of irony, Hart Council cabinet member, Steve Forster has resigned his position on Fleet Town Council (full article here).  He was particularly irked by the planned rise in Fleet’s share of the council tax and his other reasons for resignation inlcuded:

“Too much money has been spent on consultations”

The council is “out of touch with residents”

“When it comes to strategic vision and then importantly delivery, which could really improve the town…I believe they still have a long way to go”

Hart Council is also planning to increase the council tax by 1.99%.

Given that he feels so strongly, one is left wondering if Steve will also resign his position on Hart Council as it appears to us as though it suffers from a similar malaise.

  1. Oh man that is just priceless – this from the same blinkered individual who refuses to answer straightforward questions whenever he pops in here for a quick troll. Unbelievable.

  3. well if they continue in this vein it will continue to be delayed by their own errors and could become a very real possibility. Obviously in order to keep the number of repsonses to a bare minimum they have opted to run a secret consultation. One could simply argue that this in itself means it would surely have to be extended beyond the 18th March to allow for the fact they have not publicised a 4th Feb start date.

  4. I particularly like the letters in the Fleet News today in response to the Fleet council tax rise to fund planning for the Harlington. The writer disussed costs and numbers and concludes – FTC councillors are welcome to challenge my numbers but they must do the sums and share them in full with the electorate before going any further. If anyone is being disrespectful it is FTC members for hiding the true costs of this project. This appears to be following the Hart DC trend of concealing numbers in any current situation. Over the page we get – Hart residents facing increase in council tax (so don’t worry Fleet we are all getting it one way or another). And in black and white – At the extreme the council would be in serious financial straits if no local plan meant the loss of the New Homes Bonus.

  5. You did well to spot this has been restarted, there is no indication on the Hart DC home page, there have been no public announcements and nothing through the letter box. In fact unless you feel the urge to check the planning page you would never know.
