In its latest newsletter to members, the CPRE has strongly condemned the system of setting unattainable housing targets as a dangerous flaw in the current planning system which must be changed. It is opening the door to wave after wave of speculative planning applications for housing on greenfield sites across England.
They point out that setting ever higher housing targets only results in housebuilders banking land and cherry picking the most profitable sites to develop, usually on greenfield sites and restricting the build rate to maximise profits. Then local planning authorities get the blame for not building enough housing and have to allocate even more land.
We agree strongly with the CPRE’s stance, and ask you to consider if you would like to become a member of CPRE to help fund their efforts.
